We are in full swing preparing for the Kentucky Derby party, and my good friend, Sue, has made these adorable cookies (and the mint julep cupcakes pre-straws and mint in the background) for the party!

Kentucky Derby Inspiration Board

We still have many projects to complete before the Derby party, but here is a sneak peek of what we are working on and some of our inspiration.

15 days and counting!

Invitations and real horseshoes (for luck) are hand-delivered to guests.

Green outdoor carpeting will cover table surfaces throughout the party space.

Dollar store horses have been spray-painted black with chalkboard paint.

The mint julep cups and vases were ordered from Save-On-Crafts.

Felt "silks" were made for chair covers.  Felt, scissors, heat-n-bond, and an iron was all it took to make these!

Creating a mint julep "bar" with the assistance of some silver trays from the dollar store and chalkboard paint.

Horse chalkboards label food.

Mint julep cupcakes in silver wrappers are a must!

A "Dress-up Station" for the kids will have fascinators and bow ties.  

Inflatable horses will be available for kids derby races.  (We chose not to use the broomstick horses since they easily become weapons in the hands of little ones.)

If you know that your "gents" won't dress up for Millionaire Row, maybe they're better suited for the Infield with these necktie napkins and their everyday attire.

Gorgeous hats are a must for the ladies!

Mint julep cups and stripey straws make things festive.

Bakerella has some adorable hat cookies, and Hatter and Hare Events has some cute candy hat pops, too!

Mad Science Birthday Party

Science + Party = Amazing Fun 

As the mad scientist, Mad Maggie, was setting up, guests arrived and were prepped for the lab with personalized lab coats and goggles.  Diet Coke + Mentos in the backyard made for additional entertainment until the real mad science show began.  Mad Maggie put on an amazing interactive show that the kids and adults alike loved!  The Experimentation Station featured petri dishes and "make your own" macaroni and cheese experiment elements.  (Sauteed leeks, sauteed mushrooms, broccoli, chives, bacon, chicken, pepper, and the kids favorite: colored milk)  Celery stalks were in 4 glasses of colored water to see the "drinking straws" that they use to move the water through the plants.  Cream soda and water bottles received cute printable wrappers and flagged straws.  Favors included science themed cookies, slime they made with Mad Maggie, a test tube of insta-snow with directions attached, and of course their lab coats and goggles.

With football season coming to a close this Sunday, we are anxious for the return of America's favorite past time on March 28th.  This baseball-themed inspiration board is sure to help you style the perfect celebration for the season opener.  Whether in your backyard or your local diamond, it's Batter Up!
