Shake Your Bonbon
Roscar Chocolates Bonbons and Country Truffles
When people slam your country roots, you give them a mouthful. (You go, cowgirl.)
Next time, let ’em shove it with Roscar. Based in tiny Bastrop, Texas, the chocolatier’s handmade, artisan bonbons and country truffles speak for themselves.
The bonbons — in shapes like a fleur-de-lis, crown, and old-fashioned fan — are filled with unique ganache flavors like rum, sun-dried cherries, and Becker Vineyards port.
For the bite-size truffles, delicious coatings (chopped chocolate, roasted coconut, toasted almonds, graham cracker dust) cover creamy deliciousness (rum-marinated raisins, sun-dried blueberries, Grand Marnier, ground hazelnuts). Choosing the best was tough: We called a tie between tequila and jalapeno and amaretto and pecan.
Since the tasting room (housed in an adorable old-school cabin) is located between Houston and Austin, ordering via phone may be the best route.
Unless, that is, you’re craving country time.
Available at Roscar Chocolates, 4501 Highway 71 East, Bastrop (512-303-1500 or roscar.com).
